We had a great time, and had planned to go back in 2020, but you can guess what happened. Hopefully this year will be different. The bayside cottage (with grill, we are not savages) is already reserved, has been since 2019, and I must say the owners of the Motel & Chalets Acadien were very cool about this whole global debacle thing and moneys and what not). We have our very own not rented dry suits this year and a bit more cold water experience. We are keeping our fingers crossed that provincial boundaries may be as well.Read more
I can’t believe it has been two years since my last post. I would explain that my life has been crazy (especially 2020…) and stuff, but so has yours. You, me, and eight billion other people. So meh for excuses.
To wind back a touch, we were on the tail end of a scuba trip through the Indian ocean, and the last scuba stop before heading to Luxembourg was Reunion island, which is French territory right off Madagascar.Read more
Most scuba divers we’ve met on the trip so far said pretty much the same thing: you’re doing your trip in the wrong order, from best (Maldives) to meh. Apparently the scuba in Mauritius and Reunion really isn’t anything to write home about.Read more
You’ve never heard of Rodrigues island and have no clue where it is? Well neither did I. It’s not the furthest point you can get to from Montreal, but not by very much. Montreal to Rodrigues island is just over 15 000 km as the crow flies (one dedicated crow), while the antipodal point is roughly at 17500 km. It sits in the middle of water, 1500 km west of Australia. So you know, same oceanic ball park. A picture is worth a thousand words yes?Read more
I am quite behind on my posts, there’s already a whole island experience between us and Mahé, so this will be brief and more picture driven.
We found a place on booking.com, that should have been pretty close to the dive shop and the beach, possibly with an okay view of at least greenery. Instead we got a major road with a bus stop and a crazy ATM trying to communicate in demonic morse code. The light blue pin is where the site said our place would be, the red X where it actually (or close enough) was. Big difference, big disapointment, but when life gives you lemons you make cocktails with the local rum, and we did.Read more
